Monthly Board Bulletin – February 2018

  1. Dr Greg Ivanoff met with the Board to discuss the new management structure for Yarram Medical Centre. Dr Ivanoff as Practice Principal plans to develop the Yarram Medical Centre as a fully integrated Rural Generalist Training Practice supporting registrars, medical students and other doctors in training. On his agenda is to grow sustainable services in this community increasing the range of services provided and servicing the YDHS Acute Ward, Urgent Care Centre, St Elmo’s Nursing Home and Crossley House Hostel. The Board was pleased that initial work in this area is seeing an increase in doctors and believe that after a period of uncertainty this new venture is a wonderful outcome for the Yarram community securing medical services into the future. In February we welcomed Dr Kenneth Brito, a part-time registrar on placement for the next 2 years.
  2. The impact of family violence on our community was considered as the Board endorsed the YDHS position statement and discussed the implementation of the Strengthening Hospitals Response to Family Violence a DHHS supported program whereby funding and resources are made available to implement organisation wide training to ensure our staff have the capacity to detect, respond and refer victims of family violence to special support services.
  3. A report back from HLB Mann Judd on the 2017 Internal Audit on our IT network security and controls revealed that YDHS has good controls in place with a recommendation received to implement a Disaster Plan and increase cyber security training for all staff.
  4. Mr Norman Reynolds was appointed to the Audit and Risk Committee. Mr Reynolds holds a Masters of Business Administration and Financial Planning and is a qualified accountant.
