23 March 2025

Thursday 20 March 2025 was Close the Gap Day, a chance for us to reflect on the work we must all do to address the inequity in life expectancy and health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

In Australia, Aboriginal infants die more often than non-Indigenous infants, and Aboriginal people’s life expectancy is shorter, with more than double the rate of illness.

To reflect on this important day, representatives from Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place joined us at YDHS to perform a Smoking Ceremony in the courtyard, followed by trivia and morning tea in the boardroom.

It was a great opportunity to improve our knowledge of Aboriginal history while enjoying some delicious treats made with native ingredients including Pepper Berry Leaf beef sliders, Lemon Myrtle slaw and Lemon Myrtle slice.

A big thanks to the Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place participants for attending and sharing their knowledge with us.
