Meet Hayley Middlemiss, Yarram Secondary College student and our newest school-based apprentice at YDHS.

Hayley joined us a few weeks ago and is completing her personal care certificate at YDHS while she continues her school studies.

Hayley says she was drawn to the school-based apprenticeship at YDHS because it offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while still being in a school setting.

“I wanted to get hands-on experience in a work environment that aligns with my interests and passions. It seemed like the perfect balance of learning and working,” Hayley said.

According to Hayley, one of the best parts of the job so far has been getting to work with such a supportive team.

“Everyone has been very welcoming and open to teaching me new things. The feeling of contributing in a real, meaningful way has been really rewarding.”

Hayley’s been picking up plenty of new skills as part of her apprenticeship.

“I’ve improved my communication skills, particularly in a professional setting. On the technical side, I’ve learned how to handle certain equipment and tools that I hadn’t used before,” she said.

We’ve loved having Hayley join the team here at YDHS and we can’t wait to watch her skills and knowledge grow as she continues her apprenticeship.
