It was great to welcome participants from Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place and local community members to YDHS this week to participate in our NAIDOC Week celebration with staff and residents.

This event continues to be a highlight on our calendar and each year, we continue to learn a little bit more about Aboriginal culture, history and customs, including traditional Aboriginal dance and the importance of Smoking Ceremonies.

The barbecue featuring traditional native ingredients proved to be a real hit with wattleseed damper rolls, salt and pepper berry crocodile, kangaroo sausage (with bush tomato sauce of course), pepper berry emu patties and lemon myrtle coleslaw all on the menu. And if that wasn’t enough, we even got to enjoy a lemon myrtle and lime tea cake!

A big thanks to Shaun Braybrook and the Wulgunggo Ngalu Learning Place participants for sharing their culture with us. We’re so grateful to be able to experience and learn a bit more about the oldest, continuous living culture on earth.
