Celebrating Volunteer Week 2017

To celebrate Volunteer Week 2017 Yarram and District Health Service held an Autumn Garden Party for their volunteers. On a perfect autumn day volunteers were treated to an outdoor barbeque and entertainment in the grounds of the Health Service.  Wyatt Kilgower, Wellington Shire Young Citizen of the Year 2017  spoke about his involvement in volunteering and why volunteering is so important to him. Guests were entertained by the Yarram Primary School Senior Choir, presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and Volunteer Week pin and received a coffee voucher donated by our generous local businesses. As part of the celebrations, volunteers were invited to write their thoughts on what they enjoy about volunteering and add it to an autumn themed banner.

YDHS has approximately 90 volunteers who support the Health Service in a variety of ways. They run programs for residents at Crossley House Hostel, St Elmos Nursing Home and the Planned Activity Group.  They assist residents at mealtimes, drive and caddy, garden, assist with maintenance tasks, participate in the Consumer Partnership Committee and much more.

It is important to recognise the capable and generous support of our volunteers. They provide a great service to YDHS and also the community at large. Many of our volunteers have supported us for a number of years so it is great to be able to do something special for them.

YDHS would like to thank Fable Café, Café Aga and Yarram Coffee Palace for their generous donations of coffee vouchers. We would also like to thank both Yarram Primary School and Wyatt Kilgower for their support of our Volunteer Week celebration.
