Dr Amanda Ormerod

Dr Amanda Ormerod is a specialist haematologist in public practice since 2015. Dr Ormerod has previously worked at the Australian Red Cross Blood Service as a Transfusion Medicine Specialist and at Bairnsdale Regional Health Service as a clinical haematologist. Dr Ormerod has extended her practice by completing training in palliative care.

Dr Ormerod currently works in the oncology unit based at Latrobe Regional Hospital, providing haematology and palliative care services in Gippsland across the region’s health services.

Dr Ormerod has long had a passion for rural medicine, having worked as a medical scientist for four years in Tanzania prior to studying medicine.

Qualifications: Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, MBBS (Hons), Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Bachelor of Science (Hons).

Ian Jaggard Hawkins

Ian Jaggard-Hawkins lives in Yarram having moved to Australia after living in France for seven years following his retirement after 37 years in the British Army – leaving as a Lieutenant Colonel. Ian spent his career in three areas. In his early years, Ian was a medical administrator serving in military hospitals and front line medical organisations before shifting to take on a role as a finance officer specialising in pay, audit and fraud administration. Towards the end of his career he served in information systems as a change management specialist and as a senior personnel officer. Ian spends his time in Yarram walking his kelpie heeler puppy, gardening and using his poor French skills – much to the amusement of his wife Margaret, a fluent French speaker!

Qualifications: The majority of Ian’s qualifications are military oriented in medical administration, finance and information technology.

Petra Bovery Spencer

Petra qualified as a physiotherapist working in various clinical roles before taking on leadership and management positions. She has extensive experience in the health industry in senior positions across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. With a particular interest in the delivery of safe and effective services for those living and working in rural communities, she is committed to ensuring those communities have equitable access to health services and improved health outcomes.

She has a particular interest in the innovative development of workforce and service models that deliver safe evidence-based services.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy), Graduate Certificate in Management.

Board Director

Jade Johnstone

Jade is the Director Collections Performance and Improvement with The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood where she holds portfolios in the areas of change and improvement, quality and audit, collections activity, workforce and supply chain management. This national role covers 76 static donor centres and over 20 mobile units and is the only supplier of blood and blood products in Australia. A seasoned leader, she has held various positions across the health sector including Director of Performance at Monash Health, Director of Transformation and Redesign at the Royal Children’s Hospital and senior lecturer at La Trobe University. Jade is a dynamic leader and has demonstrated success developing high-performing, values-led, multidisciplinary teams across complex clinical settings. Jade is passionate and enthusiastic with a sound understanding of project management. She has vast experience in enterprise change management, and has provided leadership and operational management in transforming health services in readiness for major capital builds and electronic medical records. Jade is a skilled strategist, innovator and proactive communicator taking an open and collaborative approach to drive performance improvement.

Jade has three young children and a husband who is also dedicated to the care of others.

Qualifications: Master of Business Administration, Master of Health Administration, Fellow and Certified Health Executive with the Australasian College of Health Service Managers, Post Graduate Certificate and Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

Kevin Thomson

Kevin has achieved more than forty years of professional consulting experience in Top 100 ASX multi-national organisations, Federal Government and global professional services and auditing firms. Qualified in governance, risk management and compliance; internal and external audit; information security management and assurance; payment card industry and privacy management.

Throughout his professional career, Kevin has delivered security advisory and information technology audits, developed and implemented security strategy, risk management and information security frameworks across commercial, and state and federal government clients, managed an information security consulting practice and mentored university graduates on information security career options.

Kevin grew up in the Yarram district and attended local primary and secondary schools.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Business (Accounting); Certified Practising Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA); Certified Information Security Manager (CISM); Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM); PCI SSC Qualified Security Assessor (PCI QSA) and formerly ISO27001 Information Security Management Standard Lead Implementer (ISO27001 LI).

Sue Hunt AM

Since joining The Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH) Foundation as CEO in 2010, annual revenues have doubled and the Corpus of funds has increased three-fold. Prior to this Sue was Founding Chief Executive Officer of contemporary arts space and arts business hub, CarriageWorks, Sydney (2006-2010); Director of Performing Arts for the Sydney Opera House (2003-06); General Manager of the Queensland Theatre Company (1999-2003) and General Manager of the Geelong Performing Arts Centre (1995-99). She is currently Chair of Regional Arts Victoria and Auspicious Arts Projects.

Qualifications: Sue holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Melbourne and has held a number of board memberships across a variety of arts and government organisations. She is an alumna of the Strategic Perspectives in Non Profit Management course at Harvard Business School, the AICD Company Directors’ Course, the Williamson Community Leadership Program, Leadership Victoria (1995) and the Harvard Club Fellowship Program.

Steve Warrington AFSM

Steve Warrington AFSM is an experienced executive leader with a demonstrated track record in leading organisational reform and building strong relationships with key stakeholders and partners. He has more than two decades of experience within emergency planning and management with the Country Fire Authority, including most recently serving as its Chief Executive Officer between 2019 and 2020. During this period, Steve worked to not only ensure operational readiness of the organisation for the fire season, but also harmoniously steer the organisation through one of the most significant reforms in its history as it transitioned to a volunteer-based emergency services organisation.

Throughout the course of his career, Steve has been responsible for managing a complex and diverse range of stakeholders ranging from volunteers to board members and government ministers. His ability to forge productive working relationships with stakeholders at all levels has been critical to his career success.

An experienced Incident Controller during emergency situations has instilled within Steve an ability to quickly synthesise complex information from multiple sources and determine a course of action backed by evidence.

Qualifications: Graduate Certificate in Business Management, Graduate Certificate in Applied Management, Graduate - Australian New Zealand School of Government Executive Fellows Program.

Clare Byrne

Clare has experience working across the public and private health sector in clinical and non-clinical roles after her initial qualification as a physiotherapist. Her non-clinical roles have provided her experience in leadership, strategies for engagement with teams, implementation of evaluation strategies, data analysis, service review, planning, business improvement planning and risk management. Her experiences have included involvement in EMR development and implementation and clinical governance processes and systems. In a previous role Clare supported the Group CEO of Mercy Health on a range of initiatives across their health services and aged care divisions. Clare’s current role at Monash Health as a Transformation Partner involves empowering operational areas to deliver service development and improvement.

Clare is passionate about ensuring access to health care for people in their local communities.

Qualifications: Master of Public Health, Graduate Diploma in Health Service Management, Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours.

Adam Koster

Adam is an experienced corporate lawyer and commercial real estate agent, having spent the last 10 years in the law in private practice and in-house. His current role sees him providing in-house property and corporate advice, as well as brokering significant commercial land acquisitions on Melbourne’s urban fringe and throughout regional and rural Victoria.

Having spent a considerable period of his legal and professional career in regional Victoria and New South Wales, Adam has a keen interest in promoting better access to services for rural and regional communities.

Outside of work, Adam has a special interest in public service, which has involved serving on and advising non-profit boards, volunteering in community legal centres and contributing to pro-bono legal work, particularly in the areas of legal policy development.

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts (majoring in history and politics) and Bachelor of Laws (UOW); Graduate Diploma (Legal Practice) (QUT); Masters of Laws (Monash); Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate); admissions to legal practice in the Supreme Courts of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the High Court of Australia; admitted to practice with the VLSBC as a corporate legal practitioner; Licensed Estate Agent (Victoria).
