Mental Health Awareness Event

At the request of the Yarram and District Traders Association, YDHS Health Promotion assisted with the organisation of an evening event to talk about mental health. Special guest speakers included Diane Robinson, Mental Health Educator with Rural Family Services and Senior Constable Floyd Nevis from Yarram Police Station. Diane  discussed the upcoming Mental Health First Aid course that is being delivered in Yarram in June whilst Senior Constable Floyd Nevis from Yarram Police Station gave some real life examples of how to handle difficult situations. An open discussion with questions from the 25 attendees shared some valuable experiences and included feedback from previous students of the MHFA training shared the benefits of the course.

There was also the opportunity to discuss the benefits to businesses in implementing Workplace based Health Promotion initiatives such as the Achievement Program and how this can benefit both employees and employers alike.

The response to the upcoming Mental Health First Aid course has been excellent and the course is now full. The course is funded by the Victorian Government through Mental Health First Aid Australia and the Wellington Primary Care Partnership.

Any persons interested in future courses can register their interest with Rob Preston at health.promotion@ydhs.com.au or there are places available for a course in Sale on 21/22 June. For more information go to http://wellingtonpcp.com.au/ or https://mhfa.com.au/
